Label Claims Decoded

Do produce labels actually matter?

Organic, non-GMO, local, "superfood"… even the fruit has a marketing team now. Good news: the most important thing here is the simplest — and usually free. 🍎

The one thing

Eating more produce, in more colors, matters far more than any label. Organic or not, fresh or frozen — all produce is good for you. Never let 'I couldn't buy organic' become 'so I skipped the vegetables.'

On the package

Tap a claim to see what it does and doesn't tell you.

The honest bottom line

The whole game is eat more produce, in more colors — that beats every sticker. Organic = lower pesticide residue (most worth it on thin-skinned items).

Non-GMO is usually meaningless on produce. Local = fresher/lower-footprint, not a health guarantee. Frozen is genuinely excellent. 'Superfood' is marketing.

Never let a label you can't afford stop you from eating vegetables.

Something interesting

A "Non-GMO" sticker on an orange is like a "gluten-free" sticker on water — there's no genetically-modified orange to avoid in the first place.

Look at you, out-nerding your dinner table 🎉
