Label Claims Decoded

Do chicken labels actually matter?

Organic, free-range, "no hormones," air-chilled… lots of stickers. But the thing that changes your dinner's sodium is hiding in tiny print on the back. 🍗

The one thing

Two things matter for your health — is it "enhanced" (injected with a salt solution = added sodium)? and how you cook it. Neither is the fancy front label.

On the package

Tap a claim to see what it does and doesn't tell you.

The honest bottom line

For your health: (1) is it "enhanced" (salt solution)? — that's the real sodium difference; pick plain. (2) how you cook it — grilled/baked beats fried/breaded by a lot.

"No hormones" is meaningless (illegal anyway); organic/free-range/no-antibiotics are about farming/welfare; air-chilled is a genuine quality perk.

Something interesting

"Hormone-free" chicken is legally required to already be true for every chicken — so the label's basically reminding you of the law. Meanwhile the thing that changes your sodium ("contains up to 15% solution") is in the tiniest print on the back.

Look at you, out-nerding your dinner table 🎉
